The great dunes of Merzouga are about 560 km from Marrakech — around nine and a half hours of driving, which is why the trip is usually spread over three days with a night on the way.
Short on time?
Zagora is closer: about 355 km and six and a half hours through the Draa Valley. Two days are enough.
What to see on the way
The Tizi n'Tichka pass, the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate are the classic stops.
